OBJECTIVE
Curzon was brought on board by the SDC (Somaliland Development Corporation) to raise their profile after their official launch at Westminster. As a DFID-supported initiative, the SDC required a media relations campaign to promote their work in the Horn of Africa to both investors as well as sponsors, as well as digital relations and copywriting to showcase their work through their new online platforms and website.
CAMPAIGN
The main challenge to be addressed was the promotion of the SDC’s activities ahead of concrete investment projects being set in place in the Horn of Africa. Curzon approached this by formulating a strategy to develop the SDC’s key messages to relevant media, with the purpose of establishing the company’s key directors as thought leaders in the field of transparency and investment in East Africa. This included a targeted media relations campaign, as well as copywriting and strategy for the SDC website to ensure its key messages and activities were easily accessible for both government supporters as well as potential investors and interested press.
RESULTS
Our efforts culminated in article placement in a wide variety of Somaliland key media outlets, including The Somaliland Times, Somaliland Informer, Somaliland Sun, Horseed News and Somaliland Press as well as industry-specific press covering the SDC’s various investment portals, such as Telecom Asia, Leather Biz and Agra Informa. Directors Jeremy Carver and Myles Wickstead were successfully set up as expert commentators on the investment landscape within the Horn of Africa, building long-term relationships with top-tier press such as the Wall Street Journal.
